Head of Legal

What will I be responsible for?

Accountable for delivery of a wide range of projects and leading a legal team to deliver corporate and/or project objectives; or accountable for advice as an expert providing Group-wide specialist knowledge. Accountable for project structure, compliance and governance. Accountable for managing external legal spend. Provides high level operational support focusing on maximising given resources with strategic contribution to high levels

What decision/change authority will I have?

Expected to identify and make recommendations to improve overall project rather than just segments of it, from legal and governance perspectives. Keeps abreast of developments within their area of expertise and recommends courses of action for business improvement. May contribute to asset or business unit strategies

Who will I work with?

Regular interaction with internal and external stakeholders. Contributes to stakeholder influencing strategy

What projects/people will I lead?

As Legal Manager, manages a team of experienced solicitors. Has authority to instruct law firms on significant projects. Is expected to maximise value from legal services. Sits as member of senior management team and makes strategic recommendations across a broad function or geographical area

What technical expertise will I need?

Expert and/or very broad range of legal and industry knowledge. Seen Group wide and externally as expert in field and/or influential in project management

What experience will I need?

Specialist knowledge on a wide range of complex projects or routinely provides effective legal advice to the more major strategic or sensitive projects. Demonstrates recognised expertise in setting Group-wide legal strategies; innovates and leads; applies proven leadership skills. As an expert, recognised as an industry-wide specialist

Will I need formal qualifications?

Proven leadership ability. Track record of material deal closure; strategic direction setting and adding significant value/containing significant risks on major projects. Significant external relationship experience
